Organisers of annual fire festival say 'fallow year' is needed

The organisers of Oie Voaldyn, the Manx fire festival, say they will be taking a break next year.

Instead the event, on Peel Beach, will return in 2028.

It's a celebration marking the end of winter and the arrival of summer with characters representing the two seasons battling it out in dramatic fashion.

But event organisers say it's a labour of love and takes a lot of preparation and so a 'fallow year' is needed.

The festival is due to return on 30 April 2028, May Day Eve, when the 10th anniversary of the Oie Voaldyn Festival will be celebrated.

In a statement Oie Voaldyn organisers say: "Taking a pause in 2027 ensures that when we return to mark a whole decade of fire, tradition, and community in 2028, we can deliver a celebration worthy of the milestone.

"Until then, gura mie eu, thankyou for your understanding, support, passion and love for Oie Voaldyn year after year, and see you in 2028!"
