Civil partnerships give same rights
Lord Bishop Robert Paterson says civil partnerships provide exactly the same rights for gay people as a marriage would.
Chief Minister Allan Bell has announced plans for a public consultation on the legality of same-sex marriage later this month.
At present, gay couples can only enter into a civil partnership.
But Bishop Robert doesn't believe marriage would bring any extra benefits for same-sex couples:
