Newborn lambs and ploughing at living museum

History will come alive today, when a horse ploughing event marks the opening of Cregneash for the summer season.

It's the final match of the winter ploughing season, during which ploughmen and women have been honing their skills and keeping their horses in tip-top condition.

They will be pitting their wits against each other from 10am until mid-afternoon.

Ploughing matches were first promoted by the Society for Agriculture in the early 1800s and were great occasions where the turn-out of man and horse was just as important as the quality of the ploughing.

Visitors to Cregneash today will also be able to see newborn Loaghtan lambs.
