New war memorial dedicated

The Isle of Man paused to remember its war dead this morning (Thursday).

Around the Island people gathered at war memorials to mark a two-minute silence for Armistice Day.

In Douglas, despite the weather, there was a large crowd around the monument on the promenade for a service attended by veterans, the Lieutenant Governor Sir Paul Haddacks and Mayor of Douglas Ritchie McNicholl.

In St John's there was a simple service of dedication for a new memorial naming those from the parish who gave their lives in the two world wars.

The first wreath was laid by a young girl called Doona Leece whose great-great-uncle's name is on the tablet.
