
Workers from outside the European Economic Area will have to apply for work permits using a new points-based system from next month.
The changes reflect a UK scheme which has been in place since 2008 and will replace the current Overseas Labour Scheme.
Potential migrants will be scored in areas such as their ability to speak English, as well as their qualifications and experience.
The officer who drew up the new rules, Jane Jelski, says only a small number of people will be affected by the rule changes.
