Councillor Steven Crellin says the scheme brings awareness to local organisations
The new Mayor of Douglas says he has chosen charities for this year's fundraising appeal scheme which are 'meaningful' to him and residents of the capital.
Councillor Steven Crellin has selected Dots Dream Charity, Riding for the Disabled and Hospice Isle of Man to support during the next year.
The scheme allows the organisations to do fundraising at council events including the fireworks display and Christmas light switch on, as well as helping bring awareness to their respective causes.
Councillor Crellin says he hopes to help raise as much money as possible for each of them:
Steven Pitts, son of former councillor Dorothy Pitts, set up Dots Dream charity in her honour to help people who have life-changing illnesses.
Mr Pitts said he ‘shed a tear’ when he found out the organisation had been selected:
Also chosen was Riding for the Disabled which provides children and young people with disabilities the opportunity to learn how to ride a horse
Volunteer Mike Simpson says he hopes being part of the Mayoral Appeal will help bring awareness to the charity and potentially new volunteers:
Councillor Crellin also selected Hospice Isle of Man, which supports adults and children with end of life care.
Head of Income Generation Vanessa Smith said the charity is ‘well loved’ and she hopes being part of the scheme will bring awareness to the charitable sector on the Island:
