Developed in conjunction between DfE and hospitality sector

A proposal to make it easier, and more cost-effective, for eligible licence holders to support one-off private functions will go before Tynwald for approval next month.

The Private Event Liquor Licence has been developed in conjunction with the Department for Enterprise after feedback from the hospitality sector.

If approved it would apply only to private, invitation only, events of up to 250 guests for a maximum of one day.

The aim of the new licence is to remove barriers to access new opportunities, while maintaining appropriate safeguards for communities and event attendees.

If approved it will come into force on 10 August and, following a pilot period, the Department of Home Affairs will conduct a review with stakeholders to assess the impact of the new licence and if further legislative change is required.

Applications would continue to be assessed by the courts with an opportunity for objections to be heard.

MLC Rob Mercer, Political Member for Business Isle of Man, said: "This pilot represents a positive and practical response to industry feedback, supporting new commercial opportunities, and helps ensure the Island remains an attractive location for hosting events."

The proposed regulations are to be considered during Tynwald in July.
