Manx Care has announced a new partnership aimed at improving translation services across the health body.
The initiative with Language Line Solutions allows access to a system which helps medics connect patients with expert linguists who speak their language.
Four new 'Interpreter on Wheels' devices have also been rolled out on wards at Noble's Hospital including the Acute Medical unit, Emergency Department and Maternity.
Andy Reed, Manx Care's Commercial Development Manager, says they hope to have more of the devices by the time of TT 2026:
Liza Munro, Project Lead for Women's and Children's Services, says: “Language should never be a barrier to safe and equitable maternity care.
"This new service ensures that all women, regardless of language or hearing ability, can communicate directly with their care team through professional interpreters, including British Sign Language support.”
Manx Care CEO Teresa Cope says: “This strategic collaboration marks a significant advancement in supporting clear and effective communication between healthcare staff, patients, and service users.
"It reinforces Manx Care’s commitment to reducing health inequalities and delivering inclusive, high-quality care for all members of the community.”
