'Get Online Centre' offering tools to develop digital skills
A government led initiative to help reduce digital exclusion has been launched at the Welcome Centre in the Sea Terminal in Douglas.
The ‘Get Online Centre’ offers free access to computers and training to help people develop digital skills, learn to use devices and be safe online.
The centre will offer both one-to-one and group sessions on topics such as internet security, Microsoft Office, shopping online, email and using Skype.
The Cabinet Office member with responsibility for digital inclusion is Diane Kelsey MLC.
She says there's been a global shift towards services being provided online over the last few years, but that not everyone is comfortable or confident in accessing services in that way.
Mrs Kelsey believes it's vital that local residents aren't disadvantaged in accessing services or deals, or in using the Internet for socialising or entertainment.
The Coronavirus pandemic highlighted the importance of being online to reduce isolation and keep in touch with friends or family through chat, email and video.
