
Gas bills are going up in the Island from next month.
Manx Gas has announced a 5.5 per cent rise in natural gas tarriffs, with LPG going up by 7.6 per cent.
Those increases come into effect from October 8.
The price rise is due to increases in the wholesale energy market, which new managing director Tony Nicholls says the company can do nothing about.
Prices came down by more than eight per cent last year, so the fuel is still cheaper than it was a year ago, but he admits that at a time when the public are being urged to tighten belts, the hike in bills is not welcome:
