But health body says it is impossible to predict its impact

Manx Care has described a new drug to treat Alzheimers as a 'step in the right direction' but says it is impossible to predict its impact.

Researchers believe there could be a 'new era' for treatment after finding something which slows the progress of the disease early-on.

Lecanemab clears clumps of a protein, thought to be the main cause of the illness, from patient’s brains; it’s now in the trial phase.  

Katherine Gray is the from the Alzheimer’s Society and spoke to Manx Radio:

Manx Care adds that the use of the drug requires very specialised brain imaging which is not available on the NHS and is unlikely to be unavailable on the Island due to ‘very high costs’.
