Former MHK believes it would help re-engage the public
A former MHK who has called for a referendum on net zero believes the proposal could help rekindle public interest in Manx politics.
Paul Quine’s suggestion is set to be brought before Tynwald in December by Middle member Stu Peters.
The plan would allow voters to decide whether they support the government’s net zero policies, with the referendum taking place alongside the House of Keys General Election next year.
Mr Quine says that, amid widespread disillusionment with politics, this could provide a meaningful way to re-engage the public:
Government previously said achieving net zero is "essential for protecting our environment, securing cleaner and more reliable energy and creating stronger economic opportunities for the Isle of Man."
