Grim conditions on high ground
The Mountain Road will now remain closed overnight.
Police say the decision has been made following a joint assessment and consultation with the Department of Infrastructure.
It will be shut until it's handed over to Race Control for Senior Race Day at 8.45am.
That means the stretch is likely to stay closed until the culmination of racing tomorrow at 5pm.
However, police have pledged to get the road open before it closes again, to allow fans and marshals to get to their stations in time.
They say it's been deemed that the condition of the road is still too dangerous to allow for public use.
The closure overnight, they say, is necessary to allow DoI service vehicles to carry out an extensive clean-up operation before any racing can take place.
