Will remain shut until Friday

The closure of the Mountain Road - and the upper section of the Tholt Y Will Road - has been further extended.

It's shut to all vehicles and pedestrians from Ramsey Hairpin to Creg ny Baa and Tholt Y Will from the Bungalow to the Tholt Y Will Road.

The Department of Infrastructure confirmed it will be reassessed at midday tomorrow (Friday 21 November).

A yellow weather warning for frost and ice is also in place until 3pm tomorrow.

UPDATE 3:30PM: The DOI says the Tholt Y Will Road though is much improved and will be reopened as far as the Bungalow later this afternoon as soon as current salting work is complete.

To summarise:

  • Ramsey to Bungalow will be closed
  • Bungalow to Creg Ny Baa will be closed
  • Access to the Victory Café will be available from Sulby via Tholt Y Will Road
  • Access to Creg Ny Baa Pub and Restaurant will be from Douglas and Creg Ny Baa Back Road.

The department says the decision has been taken 'in the light of the continuing yellow warning that is in place for sub-zero temperatures until 3pm Friday'.

It adds: "The Department will continue to monitor conditions on the lower arterial routes. Additional treatment will be applied this evening in particular damp areas that may be prone to ice which are on gritting routes 3,5,6,7,9 & 10.

"Other areas on these routes are sufficiently salted."

You can find the winter gritting routes HERE.
