27-year-old was 2.5 times over legal limit
A Ballabeg man has been banned from the road for three years after crashing into a lamppost whilst drunk.
Alexander Oliver John Cain, of Friary Park, lost control of his VW Golf in icy conditions just after midnight on 16 December.
At Douglas Courthouse the 27-year-old admitted drink driving on Douglas Road in Ballasalla.
The court heard he was more than two and a half times over the limit.
Cain’s advocate told the court he was ‘truly remorseful’ adding: "He fully accepts the risk he posed to himself and to others."
Fining Cain £1700, and ordering him to pay £125 in prosecution costs, High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him: "This was a moment of madness and stupidity."
Cain will remain banned until he’s taken and passed an extended driving test and drink driving rehabilitation course.
