New bill due before Tynwald later this year
The petition for a new domestic abuse bill for the Isle of Man has gained more than 9,000 signatures.
Tamasin Wedgwood, a survivor of abuse and campaigner for domestic violence support on the Isle of Man, created the petition last year.
The new bill is set to go before Tynwald no later than October.
It will no longer be primarily incident-based and will instead focus on abuse as a course of conduct over time, and consider higher penalties for abusers.
Ms Wedgwood says this will help move the bill from its previous, old-fashioned logic:
