More than £10m paid to pipeline firm

Full costs may not be complete

More than £10million has been paid by government to the firm Insituform over the last decade.

The figure was revealed in answer to a written question in the House of Keys.

Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan was asked for the details by Onchan MHK Julie Edge.

Insituform is a water and wastewater pipeline systems firm and the data provided by Mr Cannan shows government departments, statutory boards and offices have paid just under £10.8million to the company since 2007.

That may be higher, but some data has been lost due to an update to the Manx Utilities Authority's financial software in 2012.

But with the information provided, it's been disclosed the MUA has paid Insituform almost £6.5million in the last five years alone.

In addition to that, the figures could have further inaccuracies caused by the implementation of the government's accounting system - meaning the true costs for the first two years for government departments 'may not be complete'.
