More Laxey damage repaired, and flood defences bolstered

Designers and DoI formulate plan for summer work

The Department of Infrastructure has continued work in Laxey to repair the damage caused by last year's flood.

Sections of stone wall have been replaced with retaining wall units, and a new flood gate has been ordered.

Sandbags and flood barriers will remain in place in case river levels should rise again.

Designers are now considering what to do with the rest of the wall in preparation for further repairs over the summer.

Work will continue in the surrounding area to improve drainage and flow of the river.

Tributaries have been cleared from the DoI depot, and the old police station.  

In order to carry extra water from the stream beneath Glen Road to the outfall at Cumberland House, new drainage has been installed.

Plans are also being drawn up for a replacement culvert outside the DoI depot to prevent blockages, as well as work to improve the river channel.
