Month long closure to demolish cliff top property

A landslide in 2023 saw two buildings evacuated

Old Laxey Hill will be closed to vehicles for up to a month to allow for an emergency demolition. 

The road will be closed from Monday 28 September until Monday 26 October 2026 to allow for Cliffmount to be demolished. 

Garff Commissioners said: "Following ground movement affecting the property and the slope below, independent structural and geotechnical engineers have advised that the building needs to be demolished in a controlled manner to make the site safe."

Works are planned for Monday–Saturday, 8am–5pm. The road may be reopened earlier if engineers confirm that it is safe to do so.
Pedestrian access will be maintained for residents, managed by the site team. Residents should make themselves known to the site manager or banksman and follow their instructions.

Vehicle access will not be possible through the closure, so residents are asked to plan journeys using the signed diversion and, where possible, park outside the closure area. The upper and lower footpaths adjacent to the site will also be closed.

The Commissioners said: "We appreciate that this will cause some disruption and thank residents for their patience and cooperation while these essential safety works are carried out.

"Residents with specific access requirements, including carers, deliveries, mobility needs or medical appointments, are asked to contact the site team in advance so arrangements can be made."
