Newly-elected member supports calls to stop MLCs from becoming departmental members
A newly elected MHK says he believes MLCs have a role to play – but not in government departments.
Onchan member Rob Callister last week supported a call for members of the upper house to be prevented from becoming departmental or statutory board members.
The issue was ultimately put on hold until next spring's debate on the Lord Lisvane inquiry, which reviewed the Island's parliamentary system.
However, Mr Callister insists MHKs can carry out the departmental work without the need for MLC involvement.
