MLCs better in purely scrutiny role say candidates

Different views on whether to take on such a role

MLCs are better in a scrutiny role than a departmental one.

That's the view of two candidates standing in Monday's election.

Fifteen people have put their names forward for the five available places.

Speaking on Mandate on Thursday morning, retired tax and commercial consultant Christine Wheeler and former government communications executive and PR officer Alistair Ramsay, agreed in their preference for MLCs to be non-departmental - but had different views on whether they would take on such a role should they be successful.
