Tony Wild explains why he couldn't back plans to make public servants pay for parking

A member of the Legislative Council says he couldn’t agree to plans to make public servants pay for parking spaces because they’d be unfair on staff.

Tony Wild was one of six MLCs who voted against the proposals in Tynwald on Tuesday, defeating the motion and leading Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne to ask for a combined vote next month.

Mr Wild says he’s happy for Tynwald members to pay, but had been approached by civil servants who felt disadvantaged by the rules.

He says he may bring an amendment to next month’s debate to make Tynwald members start paying immediately, while the court fine-tunes the rules for government staff.
