Government stats reveal green progress
The Island’s doing well when it comes to recycling batteries – but not so well when it comes to paper.
New government figures show the amount of paper being collected for recycling has halved in the last decade, while the amount of batteries collected at civic amenity sites has risen five-fold over the same period.
The data is contained in a new document from the Cabinet Office, called The Isle of Man in Numbers.
Figures from Douglas Borough Council also shows 650 tonnes of paper and glass were collected through kerbside recycling schemes in 2014, compared to around 1,350 tonnes in 2009.
