Promising racer lost life in Senior event

A verdict of misadventure was recorded at the inquest into the death of a TT rider this afternoon (30 August).

Thirty-two-year-old Andrew Soar from Leicestershire died at Keppel Gate on his penultimate lap of this year's Senior TT race (June 10).

Mobile phone footage captured by a spectator shows Mr Soar's bike leaving the road before both man and machine collided with an earth bank - he died at the scene.

Hailing from Loughborough in the East Midlands, he was showing great promise in the motorsport world with victory in the 2014 Senior Manx Grand Prix.

Mr Soar - an IT technician by trade - made his first appearance at the TT in 2015.

The court heard how he was an experienced rider who knew the course well.

Coroner of Inquests John Needham said it was a very sad, unforeseen racing incident which led to the death of a young man in the prime of his life.
