Callister questions whether financial plan will 'genuinely' help those struggling

An Onchan MHK says commitments made in the financial plan for the year ahead will have ‘broad public appeal’ in an election year.

He’s accused the treasury minister and chief minister of ‘presenting a Budget for votes’ before the General Election in September.

Despite this Rob Callister told Tynwald he will support the document.

However he questioned how much raising the personal Income Tax allowance would cost taxpayers in the long term.

Individuals will start paying tax on annual earnings over £17,000 and jointly assessed couples will see their limit rise to £34,000.
