Living Wage proposals move a step forward
Plans to establish a living wage in the Island have moved a step closer, after a contentious debate in Tynwald yesterday (Tue).
A motion to set the rate, and introduce a voluntary system of compliance, was put forward by Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper.
But an amendment was suggested by Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas, who argued the Council of Ministers' Programme for Government had already made sufficient outline for a living wage.
Mr Hooper accused CoMin of watering down the proposals.
Mr Thomas' amendment was defeated by a single vote - and proposals for the living wage will now be put before Tynwald in October 2017.
