Minimum standards in rental properties 'not a priority' for DoI

MLC says other work is taking place ahead of landlords legislation

Work on laws that would require landlords to provide minimum standards in their properties won't come into force before next summer.

The Landlords Registration Act, which received Royal Assent almost three years ago, includes provision for such legislation.

Before minimum standards can be enforced, the Department of Infrastructure intends to consult on the proposals - it currently expects to complete this by June 2025.

Once the consultation process is complete, there'll be further steps to be completed before the secondary legislation can be introduced.

Political member for the department, Dawn Kinnish MLC, was quizzed by the Tynwald Youth Select Committee looking into housing.
