MHKs have begun posting their payslips to social media, to prove they’ve been paying their pension contributions.
Last week, an access to government information request revealed only 23 members were making voluntary contributions into their pension pots.
But Manx Radio has contacted all 24 members individually – and they all insisted they’d been paying into the scheme for some time.
Now, some elected representatives are taking it a stage further: with documentary proof of their payments.
Yesterday on Twitter, Rushen MHK and Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson posted a redacted picture of his payslip showing his £242 payment in November.
Meanwhile on Facebook, Peel MHK and Education Minister Tim Crookall has followed suit, saying it’s a shame one of his fellow members appears to be lying over paying voluntary contributions to the scheme.
Last week on Manx Radio’s Sunday opinion programme, Onchan MHK David Quirk showed his last payslip, complete with pension payment – and West Douglas MHK Chris Thomas pointed out he pays compulsory contributions as a new member.
Treasury Minister Eddie Teare and Castletown MHK Richard Ronan have also showed their payslips to Manx Radio.
