
A local MHK has welcomed the recommendation the Liverpool Care Pathway is phased out.
It was made this week, following a UK review of the end-of-life care system.
It's used on the Island at the hospice, and primarily by Noble's Hospital and Ramsey Cottage Hospital within the Department of Health.
The hospice and the department yesterday afternoon confirmed its use on the Island had been suspended, although there is no evidence the pathway has ever been used inappropriately here.
Liberal Vannin's Kate Beecroft, the South Douglas MHK, says she and the party have never been against the system entirely, but believed more safeguards were needed:
