MHK still wants Island's referendum laws updated

It's after politicians rejected plans to put the proposed Assisted Dying laws to the public vote

Calls for a referendum on Assisted Dying Laws were defeated yesterday, but one MHK believes the legislation could still be put to a vote.

Ayre and Michael MHK Alfred Cannan wanted to give the Manx public the final say on whether a law - allowing terminally ill people to request assistance to end their own lives - should go ahead.

But he was unsuccessful, the vote; 11 for, 12 against.

Currently, Manx legislation states any question would have to be drafted by Deemsters.

The Isle of Man has never had a referendum.
