The Onchan MHK chaired the committee into whistleblowing
Onchan MHK Julie Edge has told Tynwald she made a protected disclosure while a member of parliament.
Ms Edge, who chaired the whistleblowing select committee, made the revelation as she opened the debate on that committee's report:
She told members that she was announcing her action for 'safekeeping'.
Ms Edge added: "If the chair of a select committee of Tynwald, with parliamentary privilege, with a public platform, with more than 40 years of public service behind her, has to invoke the protections of whistleblowing to feel safe doing her job, what chance does a nurse at Nobles have?
"A teacher, a social worker, a junior officer with a mortgage to pay on our Island, where their employer is very often the only employer in their field?"
