Louis O'Regan sustained fatal injuries in incident at Kate's Cottage

Manx Grand Prix organisers have confirmed a competitor was killed during the opening day of the 2024 event.

Louis O'Regan died following injuries he sustained in an incident at Kate's Cottage, just before 5pm, during the first qualifying session today (18 August).

The 43-year-old Irishman, who lived in Didcot in England, was an experienced MGP competitor having made his debut in 2013.

He recorded his personal best lap in the 2019 Junior Race with an average speed of 114.7mph.

Organisers say they extend their 'heartfelt condolences' to his partner Sarah, his family, loved ones and friends.

Roads around the Mountain Course have now reopened, following an extended road closure, however police have warned the section between The Bungalow and the Creg ny Baa could remain closed for a 'significant period'.
