Peel protest later today
The chairman of Peel Commissioners has defended regeneration work in the town's marketplace - and urged residents to wait until the scheme's finished, before taking a view.
Sandstone and granite are being used in the upgrade, replacing tarmac and concrete roads and pavements.
The project has also seen almost half a million pounds - more than 40 per cent of the budget - spent on replacing underground utility services.
Local residents unhappy at the area's new look will gather in the marketplace for a protest at 2.30pm this afternoon (Saturday).
However, commissioners' chairman Christine Moughtin is confident the project will bed-in well with its surroundings when it's finished:
