Charity gives guidance for dogs, cats and small pets
The ManxSPCA has reiterated advice for pet owners as Storm Amy hits the Island this weekend.
It has issued guidance online for dogs, cats and small pets.
It says before letting your dog out to relieve themselves, 'check gates and fences are secure, or keep them on a lead' and if you're walking them during the upcoming darker evenings, make sure you can be seen.
In terms of cats, it's reminding people to check sheds, garages, and outbuildings for cats that may not be yours but are seeking shelter.
If you find one, the charity says to 'try to contact the owner rather than letting them out in bad weather'.
For small animals, it says 'make sure their homes are secure and warm and move them indoors if possible'.
Finally, it says it has 'noticed more dogs loose recently' and so is reminding owners to 'make sure your pet is microchipped and that your contact details are up to date'.
Microchips are a legal requirement for dogs and 'helps ensure they can be safely returned if found'.
While not a legal requirement for cats, the charity says 'microchipping is just as important for them to help reunite with their owners'.
