Manxman won't return to service until end of September

Steam Packet says the situation is hugely disappointing

The Steam Packet Company has confirmed Manxman will not return to service until late September.

The ferry operator says propulsion shaft bearings were removed during an inspection, and found to have sustained wear.

In a statement, it's confirmed specialist repairs are underway, but given the complexity of the repairs and logistical challenges with sourcing components, it's currently not expected the vessel will return to service for two months.

The Steam Packet described the situation as hugely disappointing, but says it's priority is ensuring the repairs are completed to the highest standard for the vessel's long term reliability and performance.

The Ben-my-Chree will continue to operate all Heysham sailings in the meantime, while Arrow is due to arrive later today to provide additional freight support.

The company has apologised for the disruption caused to customers, and thanked them for their patience and understanding.
