Full day of specials scheduled for the broadcast's centenary year
A BBC continuity announcer who grew up on the Island has returned to Manx shores to record a special programme which will air on New Year's Day.
Amanda Litherland, from Onchan, is now one of the voices of the iconic Shipping Forecast on Radio 4.
To mark the broadcast's centenary year (on Radio 4), several announcers are visiting their home shipping areas to talk about their own personal connection to the sea.
Amanda says voicing the landmark of British broadcasting is a 'real honour':
A full day of Radio 4 programmes celebrating the centenary year of a landmark of British broadcasting: the Shipping Forecast.
Special guests including Stephen Fry, Val McDermid and Adrian Dunbar will also lend their voice to reading the forecast.
Regular programmes from Soul Music to Poetry Please will also mark the occasion, alongside documentaries exploring how Britain remains shaped by its maritime past.
