Manx Utilities urges households to tackle everyday water waste

Changes like fixing leaks and shortening showers could help conserve water and protect the environment, says utility provider

Manx Utilities is encouraging residents to take steps to reduce water waste in their homes, highlighting that small changes can make a significant impact.

While burst pipes often come to mind, the utility says most water waste happens through everyday habits.

A leaking toilet, for example, can waste between 200 and 400 litres of clean water per day - equivalent to the daily usage of two to three people.

A dripping tap can waste up to 5,500 litres a year, while swapping a bath for a five-minute shower could save at least 40 litres each time.

The organisation says such changes take only seconds, cost nothing, and can help preserve the Island’s water supply and natural environment.
