Manx Utilities assures resilience amid European power outages

Manx Utilities says Island power systems are designed to withstand failures, despite concerns following European outages.

Manx Utilities says the Island’s electricity network remains resilient despite major power outages recently affecting Spain and Portugal.

The authority admits the incidents are concerning, but says the Isle of Man operates with both its Pulrose power station and the UK interconnector working together - meaning if one fails, the other can meet demand.

Initial investigations suggest a fault on part of the European grid caused a cascade of failures, believed to have started with a link between France and Spain.

There has been speculation about a possible cyber attack, but Manx Utilities says while the threat exists, the Island's grid systems are deliberately kept isolated from the Internet to minimise risks.
