Planning officer also says application failed to adequately justify why other options couldn't be used

A planning application to install two more telegraph poles for Manx Telecom's fibre optic installation has been refused.

It's the latest in a string of applications related to the project to be rejected.

Manx Telecom had been seeking to install them at Princes Road in Ramsey along with their associated cabling.

However, it was decided they'd have a negative visual impact because of the buildings in the area predominantly being bungalows or chalet bungalows.

The planning officer added the application failed to demonstrate a strategic national need or adequately justify why alternative options weren't pursued.

Manx Telecom is currently working to implement the Isle of Man’s National Broadband Plan, which aims to provide fibre-to-the-premises coverage to more than 99 percent of properties here by 2029.
