20-year-old suffered broken jaw after intervening to help elderly woman
A Manx student has undergone extensive surgery to his jaw after being attacked during a protest in Liverpool earlier this month.
Twenty-year-old Brandon-Lee Jones, who is from Port Erin, was walking along the city’s waterfront near Pier Head when violence erupted involving anti-immigration and anti-racism protestors.
Brandon-Lee – who is studying games, art and animation at the SES Institute - had finished studying for the day and was heading to a skateboard park to unwind.
He told Manx Radio he was attacked after intervening to help an elderly lady who’d been confronted by a group of five protestors:
Merseyside Police said around 750 protestors - who'd been taking part in different protests in the city - had come together on the day at around 2pm.
Six people - aged between 29 and 58 - were held on suspicion of violent disorder and criminal damage.
