Reih Bleeaney accolade for Phil Kelly
This year’s winner of the Reih Bleeaney Vanananan trophy has praised the ‘great strides’ made in promoting the Manx language.
Phil Kelly was recognised on Friday for almost 50 years' work in teaching, promoting, publishing, and developing online resources for the Manx language.
He was one of the team which helped reverse a dictionary, compiled by Doug Faragher, to Manx-English.
At one point he says there were fewer than 200 fluent Manx speakers, a position which has now changed considerably:
