Manx Museum opens 'No Limit' exhibition to mark 90th anniversary

Display celebrates George Formby’s TT-inspired film and 1930s motorcycling heritage

An exhibition marking the 90th anniversary of George Formby’s classic TT-themed film 'No Limit' has opened today (24 May) at the Manx Museum.

The 1935 film, directed by Monty Banks, was shot on location at the Isle of Man TT and launched Formby to stardom.

It follows the story of George Shuttleworth, a chimney sweep from Wigan with dreams of TT glory.

The exhibition, created in partnership with the George Formby Society, includes a ukulele signed by Formby, the original back bib worn by Manx extra Jack Cannell, and a selection of 1930s TT racing artefacts.

It will run until 14 September 2025 in the museum's 'Cabinet of Curiosity' and is free to visit.

Manx National Heritage will also host a special film screening on 27 July, followed by a two-day ukulele workshop on 30 July and 1 August.
