Cavendish leads British challenge
Manx cycling superstar Mark Cavendish is bidding for a second World Road Race Championship title in Qatar today.
He won his first back in 2011 in Copenhagen.
A world-class field faces a 257 kilometres in the heat of the desert and on the streets of Doha.
The Manx Missile leads the Great Britain team which could also include Castletown resident Ian Stannard and Ben Swift from Onchan.
The flat terrain is likely to lead to a bunch sprint finish so Cavendish should be up against the likes of German Andre Greipel, who leads the German challenge ahead of Marcel Kittel, current rainbow jersey holder Peter Sagan and Italian Elia Viviani amongst others.
