Judge-only trials among raft of options
A raft of recommendations to reform the Island's jury system will be put to Tynwald next week.
Among them are granting defendants the option of a judge-only trial, increasing the number of jurors from 7 to 12 in serious cases, allowing majority verdicts, and providing counselling in 'emotionally draining' cases.
The select committee which made the recommendations drew its conclusions after several months of evidence from legal and judicial experts.
Its chairman, Douglas East MHK Chris Robertshaw, also says social media formed a part of the investigation:
