Manx inflation increases by 0.3%

Overall inflation moderated to some extent by decreases in energy and fuel, says Statistics Isle of Man

The Isle of Man's consumer inflation rate increased last month, with restaurants and hotels, and alcoholic drinks and tobacco among the biggest risers.

The rate at which prices are rising stands at 2.6 percent, up from 2.3 percent in April.

Restaurants and hotels exhibit the largest increase in a 12-month period by 7.8 percent.

'Alcoholic beverages and tobacco' follows having risen 4.8 percent, within this category, tobacco saw a jump of 7.5 percent.

'Miscellaneous goods and services' sees an increase of 4.3 percent.

Domestic services, air travel, poultry and beef are among the largest movers over 12 months to May, rising by a combined average of 11.3 percent.

Meanwhile, oil and other fuels, gas, petrol and oil, and furnishings saw decreases by a combined average of 12.8 percent.

Over a one month period, leisure services sees the highest increase at 1.2 percent, while leisure goods experienced deflation by a rate of 11.7 percent.
