M&S café to close as part of 'store transformation'

Company announces plans to expand food hall, clothing and home departments

A retailer in Strand Street has confirmed its café is to close as part of a wider store refurbishment.

Marks and Spencer says to create space for a 50 percent increase in its food hall, the existing café will shut permanently.

In its place will be a 'larger in-store bakery, with two served coffee machines and a hot chicken counter'.

The space was refurbished in 2017.

The company confirmed that the revamped store will also include expanded clothing and home departments.

It will remain open throughout the renewal works, with the in-store team 'committed to minimising disruption for customers'.

Store Manager Caroline Brand said: "We're excited to unveil our plans to renew our Douglas store.

"This investment will allow us to offer an even wider range of our delicious M&S Food, all while maintaining the great quality and trusted value our customers expect."

The updated store is 'anticipated to launch in Spring 2026'.

Last month, fellow Strand Street store Waterstones closed its own café.
