Man punched security officer in face after being refused entry to bar

20-year-old will be sentenced in October

A Douglas man will be sentenced in October after punching a security worker in the face after he was refused entry to a bar.

Rhys Robert Brown, of Springfield Avenue, admitted assaulting the man outside Jaks Bar and Smokehouse on 6 August.

The 20-year-old had been asked to leave the venue due to his level of intoxication – when he tried to re-enter he was stopped by the security guard but became ‘agitated’ and started swearing.

Brown then tried to get in, again, via a side door - when he was stopped this time he made a fist and punched the worker in the face.

Adjourning the case so a social enquiry report can be provided before sentencing High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Brown: “This is an assault on a security officer going about his business.”

Brown will be sentenced on 4 October – he’s been bailed until that date.
