Man in debt to Merseyside drug dealer caught with £10K

26-year-old admits conspiracy charge

A man who owed a Merseyside drug dealer £40,000 was caught after police found £10,000 hidden in his underwear.

Twenty-six-year-old Phillip Nyamande, whose address was given as the prison in Jurby, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.

He admitted a single count of conspiracy from 2 September.

Nyamande was arrested over an unrelated allegation and officers discovered the cash he was hiding.

Detectives inspected his phone and found messages from an organised crime boss who threatened to send an enforcer to the home of Nyamande’s girlfriend complete with a photo of a Steam Packet ticket.

When the man arrived on the Island he and Nyamande met at Douglas Rugby Club and arranged to send cash to the UK by hiding it in a burger van.

There was no bail application and Nyamande was remanded in custody.

He was also committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing.
