Forty-year-old allegedly called staff 'a bunch of Jews'

A man who’s said to have called insurance company workers ‘a bunch of Jews’, before threatening to smash up computers in their office will appear in court again in October.

Forty-year-old Edward Lewin, of The Lhargan in Glen Maye, appeared at Douglas courthouse before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

He pleaded not guilty to threatening to cause criminal damage at NFU Mutual on South Quay in Douglas as well as disorderly behaviour, using threatening or abusive language towards a police officer and driving without due care and attention.

However, Lewin admitted two counts of driving a vehicle with no tax and another count of driving without due care and attention.

Prosecution advocate James Robinson said on 15 July Lewin visited the insurance office and turned belligerent when staff refused to pay out on a policy, swearing and shouting before leaving the building.

On 29 July he’s then alleged to have rung up the company and threatened to smash every computer in the building, worrying staff so much they locked the doors and rang police.

Lewin’s also accused of having a vehicle with no car tax outside Peel Police Station on 7 June and verbally abusing a police officer at the station the same day.

He was granted bail and will appear in court again for a pre-trial review on 8 October.
