A Douglas nursery worker who sexually assaulted a three-year-old child in his care is waking up in prison this morning at the start of a five-year jail term.
Twenty-four-year-old Andrew James Maddrell carried out the attack when he was employed by Sandcastles Kindergarten in Douglas.
After initially denying the charge, Maddrell last month admitted indecent assault, as well as an offence of possessing 232 indecent images of children.
They were discovered following his arrest and had nothing to do with the nursery nor any child associated with the nursery.
James Davis was at Douglas courthouse for Manx Radio, and has this report: (play audio)
The owner of the nursery has thanked parents, past and present, for their support during what they call a very distressing time.
They insist they remain committed to ensuring children are kept safe.
